Aqueous 2022
THE 45TH NATIONAL EXHIBITION
Celebrating 45 years of awarding the talents of national artistss
DIRECTORS’ STATEMENT
The 45th Kentucky Watercolor Society Annual Exhibition “Aqueous USA 2022” is both beautiful and diverse. The walls of the Headley-Whitney Museum are graced with the very best watercolor paintings from across the United States. Each of the paintings tells a different story by engaging the viewer through creative expression.
We are pleased and honored to have Michael Holter as our juror. Michael is a member of the Salmagundi Club of New York. He is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, The American Impressionist Society, The Southwestern Watercolor Society, The Society of Watercolor Artists, and several others. We appreciate his selection of paintings that make up this year’s extraordinary exhibit, as well as his evaluation of the award-winning paintings.
The Kentucky Watercolor Society would like to express sincere appreciation to all the participating artists, our sponsors, our members, our board, and the Aqueous committee.
A special thank you goes to Christina Bell and the Headley-Whitney Museum, for their dedication, working with us, and being gracious hosts.
Let’s keep painting,
Peggy Charmoli and Connie Tucker

JUROR’S STATEMENT
It is always a difficult task selecting the paintings to be shown—and an even more difficult task when choosing one over another for recognition. I determine the award ranking using some very basic criteria: composition, design workmanship, and overall appeal.
Composition:
How well did the artist use the principles of design to craft the painting?
Workmanship:
The quality of the application of paint to create the effects used.
Appeal:
Does the painting tell a story? Display a mastery of a technique? Use color, pattern, or some other element to draw the viewer in?
Thank you KWS for the opportunity to be the juror and workshop presenter for your 2022 Aqueous Show. Your exhibition has gained attention and entries from a host of distinguished artists, including your home-grown talent.
I know you will enjoy the 2022 Kentucky Watercolor Society Aqueous Show.
