Lyric Theatre - 300 E. Third St., Lexington, KY 40508
Celebrating 45 years of awarding the talents of national artists
The Kentucky Watercolor Society is proud to sponsor AquaVenture 2023, an exhibition of paintings featuring water-based media by forty regional artists who primarily reside in Kentucky and surrounding states. The exhibition is being held at Lexington's Lyric Theatre from March 17 - April 28. This year’s show features 40 paintings selected from 92 submissions by the juror, Gary Edward Jennings. Organizing the exhibition this year is Sherrie Graham-Greene, KWS Board Member/Chairperson for AquaVenture, with assistance from Marian O’Shaughnessy, KWS Board Member, and Sarah Charmoli, our webmaster. We also would like to recognize the many people who support KWS with memberships and donations. It is with this support that we can continue offering quality shows and prizes for our amazing artists.
JUROR’S STATEMENT
I am primarily a landscape artist working in soft pastels, oil pastels, charcoal, and watercolors. My work is realistic, but not photographic. I’ve been working professionally for the last ten years.
I’m a graduate of the University of Louisville, Hite Art Institute attaining a BFA in 1985. My major was printmaking and drawing. While there I served as the studio assistant for John Whitesell in printmaking.
I’ve had four gallery shows in Atlanta: a one-man show, a show with artist Mary Monk from New Orleans, a group show, and I also exhibited with the Southeastern Pastel Society International Show at Oglethorpe University. I’ve also been in two shows at Tim Faulkner Gallery in Louisville, Kentucky and gallery shows in Elizabethtown and La Grange, Kentucky. I stopped using the gallery system seven years ago.
My work hangs in collections in twenty-eight states and four foreign countries. In the last two years, the University of Kentucky Arts in Healthcare Programs has purchased fifty of my drawings and paintings.
I paint the places where I hike and work to create more than a reproduction but share the spirit of Nature’s beauty and the countless gifts it’s given me.
